Podgorica, Information

Founded in the valley of five rivers, with a name that dates back to the 14th century, Podgorica is today the administrative, business, cultural and educational centre of Montenegro. Fast development of this city seems to change its appearance almost daily, and the rhythm of life
pulsates 24 hours a day.

Apart from traditional restaurants with Montenegrin
specialties, Podgorica also offers many international
cuisines, starting from Italian and French through to
Chinese, Indian or Mexican.

Cafes are favourite places for the first morning coffee
and meetings with friends, while the nightlife of the
capital is most active in the jazz clubs, discos, and
older taverns featuring the sounds of music from the
old Podgorica.

The heart of cultural life in the city is the National
Theatre of Montenegro
, while the youngest
citizens of Podgorica also have their own cultural
temple – the City Theatre, including the Children’s
and Puppet Theatres.

The rich artistic and literary tradition of the city is
being continued by contemporary artists, who have
given their personal touch to the numerous galleries
and bookstores, and Podgorica is today the centre of
the new Montenegrin music scene.

For those who would like to experience the city
through its history, we recommend a visit to the
City Museum, with exhibits from the Ancient Roman
and Illyrian epochs, or to the Marko Miljanov
Museum
in Medun, which depicts 19th century life in
Montenegro. The Natural History Museum has a fine
collection of species of Montenegro’s flora and fauna.
